Why should you exfoliate your skin?

If you don’t already exfoliate your skin, adding this step into your skincare routine could be the key to smooth, glowing skin. For the uninitiated, exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells and flaky, dry skin from the surface of your skin, revealing fresh, new skin underneath.

If you don’t exfoliate regularly, these dead skill cells can build up and clog your pores, or leave you with dull, dry skin.

Exfoliating can also help your skin with collagen and elastin production, which is essential for plump, radiant skin. It also helps to support your skin’s elasticity and signs of ageing like fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin - along with hyperpigmentation, discolouration and dark patches.

You should add an exfoliant into your routine 2-3 times a week at first to keep your skin smooth and refreshed. Exfoliating your skin too often can affect your skin barrier, so it’s important to keep it all in balance. ALPHA HYDROXY ACIDS (AHA)
These penetrate just below the skin’s surface to exfoliate, stimulate collagen and regulate the acid mantle to the correct pH. This protects and rebalances your skin to optimum levels.

BETA HYDROXY ACIDS (BHA)
BHAs exfoliate, treat breakouts and decongest clogged or blocked pores. They penetrate more deeply than AH's and work deep within the pores, making it ideal for hormonal, oily or acne-prone skin.

LACTIC ACID (AHA)
Lactic acid comes from natural sources, such as corn and works to dissolve the 'glue' between cells on the skin surface, gently exfoliating and keeping skin soft and smooth. With daily use lactic acid can stimulate turnover of new skin cells to reveal renewed, smoother skin.

ORGANIC GLYCOLIC ACID (BHA)
Made from sugar cane, sugar maple, burdock and pineapple, glycolic acid works deeper below the surface of the skin triggering the 'wound heal' response. This stimulates cell turnover, evens skin tone and texture and strengthens the skins matrix keeping it plumped, smooth and firm.

CITRIC ACID (AHA)
Citric acid comes from lemons and works to reduce photo/sun damage whilst stimulating and encouraging collagen synthesis.

ORGANIC MALIC ACID AND TARTARIC ACID (AHA)
Made from apple cider vinegar and bilberries, these gentle AHAs unsticks the ‘glue’ between the dead skin cells that sit on the surface. It also helps to boost skin elasticity and brighten.

ORGANIC SALICYLIC ACID (BHA)
Made from white willow, salicylic acid penetrates deeply into the layers of the skin to release excess oil. It also acts as a decongestant, clearing blocked or clogged pores and works to regulate oily or acne-prone skin and reduce the appearance of breakouts.
